Marie Josèphe Rose de Tascher de la Pagerie  de Beauharnais – Josephine, the nickname given to her by Napoléon Bonaparte, had a career that many girls would have dreamed of. She was born as the daughter of a poor plantation owner on the island of Martinique and against all odds became the empress of France.
