Tchaikovsky in Music and Letters

Do we understand Tchaikovsky’s music without his life and do we understand his life without his music? This combination of concert and the story of one of the most memorable friendships in history will give you a close insight into the life of the great Russian composer. The friendship with the rich widow Nadeshda von Meck who supported Peter for quite some years made it possible for him to survive as a composer. They exchanged more than 1200 letters, all of them tender, loving, intimate, distant and full of music. They were very close – yet they never met in person. A most amazing “love story!”

The songs of Peter Tchaikovsky will be interpreted by the famous Polish opera and concert tenor Piotr Tchaikovsky. The songs will be sung in Russian with subtitles. This show can also be performed in two parts: slide show about the composer (35 minutes), which can be followed by a Russian dinner and afterwards the concert and reading mentioned above.
